400 items spanning the career of Alan Wilder will be up for grabs

Alan talks on BBC Radio 6 Music about his upcoming auction ‘Collected – The Alan Wilder/Depeche Mode Collection’. You can listen to the interview below.

The event t the Zion Arts Centre in Manchester will be open to the public for two days starting tomorrow. Punters will be able to view the collectors’ pieces and watch Martin Vladar’s documentary ‘Collected’ which was made whilst Alan was re-discovering all his old equipment.

On Saturday, September 3rd from 3.00pm the memorabilia will be sold at auction which will be streamed on the internet, for people around the world to be a part of.

Also, Alan Wilder has decided to perform a virtually free concert immediately following the main sale event in Manchester on Saturday 3rd Sept at Zion theatre, as a thank you to everyone who is supporting the auction.

For the lucky few who are registering to attend the live part of the event, it will possible to stay for this performance as long as the theatre capacity at Zion will hold the numbers. In order to cover PA and projection costs, we are asking an extra £5 only for anyone who wishes to remain at the theatre for Recoil’s performance. The ONLY way to get a ticket is to register now with Omega by contacting:

office@omegaauctions.co.uk
Telephone : +44 161 865 0838

This is a very limited offer – first come, first served. Registrations, which also gives you full access to bid in the auction plus a printed catalogue, are being accepted right now.

Says Alan: “The auction has been receiving unbelievable feedback with interest from fans all over the world. Many have not only helped with research and provided useful information, but are actively taking part to help make the whole venture a great success. I wanted to do something to show my respect for everyone who is investing in this memorabilia sale, and a performance & celebration seemed to fit the bill. I hope it will act as a big thank you and show of my appreciation.”

We can also reveal that a special photographic exhibition is also being held at Zion over the course of the two days – this will feature many never-before-seen pictures by a selection of photographers, as well as some iconic Depeche Mode & Alan Wilder images over the years – all chosen by Alan and beautifully printed & framed by Fredrik Svensson. There may even be a chance to buy some of these at the end of the sale.

Finally – of course this whole auction event also takes place online. It will be broadcast in real time via the internet, and the Shunt team will also be reporting from Manchester with regular film clips, interviews, twitter updates, news on wining bidders & hammer prices. Each winning bidder will receive a free DVD of ‘Collected’ the documentary, directed by Martin Vladar (one DVD per person).

Register now at the-saleroom.com to bid from anywhere in the world.

Documentary following a generation of post-punk musicians who took the synthesiser from the experimental fringes to the centre of the pop stage.

In the late 1970s, small pockets of electronic artists including the Human League, Daniel Miller and Cabaret Voltaire were inspired by Kraftwerk and JG Ballard and dreamt of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain.

The crossover moment came in 1979 when Gary Numan’s appearance on Top of the Pops with Tubeway Army’s Are Friends Electric heralded the arrival of synthpop. Four lads from Basildon known as Depeche Mode would come to own the new sound whilst post-punk bands like Ultravox, Soft Cell, OMD and Yazoo took the synth out of the pages of the NME and onto the front page of Smash Hits.

By 1983, acts like Pet Shop Boys and New Order were showing that the future of electronic music would lie in dance music.

Contributors include Philip Oakey, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner, Gary Numan and Neil Tennant.

In the late Seventies small pockets of electronic artists such as The Human League, Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle were inspired by Kraftwerk and J G Ballard to dream of the sound of the future against the backdrop of bleak, high-rise Britain.

Gary Numan’s 1979 appearance on Top Of The Pops heralded the invention of synthpop, which would provide the soundtrack as Britain entered a new, ruthless era in the Eighties.

Depeche Mode, four lads from Basildon, came to embody the new sound, while post-punk bands such as Ultravox, Soft Cell, Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark and Yazoo took the synth from the pages of the NME and onto the front cover of Smash Hits.
