Listen To Soulsavers’ New Single ‘Longest Day’ Featuring Vocals By Dave Gahan

Soulsavers 'The Light The Dead See'

Soulsavers will release their new single ‘Longest Day’ through V2 Records on 2nd April. Taken from their forthcoming album ‘The Light The Dead See’ (out 21st May), the single will be available as a digital download. A limited edition etched 7” version of the single, of which only 300 have been pressed, will also be released on Record Store Day (20th April). ‘The Light The Dead See’ is the follow-up to 2009’s critically acclaimed album ‘Broken’. Recorded at various locations and mastered at Abbey Road, the record will be available on CD, LP and as a download.

“It was a complete collaboration. There was no real script, Dave brought a lot to the table” says the laconic Rich Machin of the extraordinary fourth album ‘The Light The Dead See’, a set of songs of majesty and momentum. “It just rolled and rolled; it was effortless.” Joining forces with Dave Gahan it immediately became clear that this was going to be something very special. “We realised we were coming from the same place in so many ways,” adds Machin. “He’s really laid himself bare on this record, his contribution is astonishing.” Says Gahan, “Everything about it was relatively unplanned, surprising: a magical thing. We were a perfect match and I’m very, very excited about this record.”

Listen To ‘Ssss’ By VCMG

VCMG Ssss

VCMG’s debut album ‘Ssss’, marks the long awaited reunion of electronic pioneers Vince Clarke (Erasure/ Yazoo/ Depeche Mode) and Martin L. Gore (Depeche Mode), who have joined forces for the first time in over thirty years to craft a 10-track album which demonstrates their mutual love of electronic music.

After initial tentative discussions, and a meeting at Short Circuit presents Mute festival in London, where they both performed, these two influential musicians and songwriters worked in a typically unique way. Clarke and Gore worked alone in their respective studios, communicating only via email and exchanging files until the album was ready.

‘Ssss’, written and produced by Vince Clarke and Martin L. Gore, was mixed by Timothy “Q” Wiles, recorded and engineered by Sie Medway Smith and Vince Clarke and mastered by Stefan Betke (aka Pole).

The album is scheduled to be released on Mute on March 12, 2012, but a stream of the entire LP is available now.

Frontman says the band is entering the studio to record their 13th album

Depeche Mode are just about ready to record their 13th album, says frontman Dave Gahan. The record will be produced by Ben Hillier, but Gahan says Depeche Mode co-founder Martin Gore will step up with more production responsibilities than on previous LPs.

“We’ve got about 20 songs demoed and we’re going to begin recording at the end of next month,” he recently told Rolling Stone. “It’s a very different process from what it used to be. You’ve got to put interesting people around you, you’ve got to work with people who are gonna inspire you to take the songs you’ve written into a completely different direction, because there’s nothing more boring than going to the studio and predictably knowing what is going to happen.”

Depeche Mode frontman will be the voice of the electronica project’s fourth record, ‘The Light the Dead See’

Soulsavers, the music and production team of Rich Machin and Ian Glover, have released three LPs since 2003 with a variety of guest vocalists – most notably Mark Lanegan, known for a long solo career as well as work with Screaming Trees, Queens of the Stone Age and the Gutter Twins. But The Light the Dead See, due May 22nd on Mute, will have a new voice – Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan.

“Soulsavers opened for Depeche Mode for a big part of the European tour for the last record we did, and I had been a fan for years,” says Gahan. “We just talked about it and we started to write songs. There was no agenda, really. That’s what was really special about it, there was no one breathing down our backs.”

Singer revitalized by experience recording The Light The Dead See

As Depeche Mode prepare to enter the studio in late-March to record their thirteenth album, we find that Martin Gore hasn’t been the only one making waves in his free time. Frontman Dave Gahan – who has two solo efforts already behind him – recently completed his latest side project, a collaboration with the eclectic and ever-evolving production duo Soulsavers.

The Light The Dead See, which will be released by Cooperative Music on May 21st, features 12 acutely powerful tracks grounded in blues, soul, and flat-out arena rock. Last weekend Gahan and Rich Machin of Soulsavers told us about what went into the album, as well as the massively positive effect this relationship will have on Depeche Mode’s future. (more…)
